THIS WEEK: LGBTQIA+ Education Workshops for Teachers! Last Minute Tickets

February 10, 2023

GPT celebrated IDAHOBIT in 2022 through their partnership with Minus18, holding activations at a number of their locations across Australia, to raise awareness and show their support for the local LGBTQIA+ community.

Activations included an IDAHOBIT letter and activation wall at Charlestown Square for customers to participate in.

The activation attracted hundreds of participants at the Newcastle shopping centre, who were able to express their allyship by being visible, learning and participating together. Aptly named, “We all have a hand in this" young and old people alike were able to paint their handle in one of the colours of the rainbow to create a community mural that was displayed for the week.

Across the country in Highpoint, the team hosted a Q&A discussion with IDAHOBIT Champion Maria Thattil, who shared her experiences of biphobia with a captive audience in an open, free session for anyone to attend.

The conversation provided an opportunity for both Minus18 and Maria as an advocate, to talk through some of the tangible ways individuals and workplaces can make meaningful impact.

In 2022, GPT created a Gender Affirmation Policy and Guidelines, a policy which has been designed to support an employee, their manager and team in the event they wish to take the step of affirming their gender.

The policy provides detailed guidance around how the process can be managed appropriately and sensitively for all. It also provides for up to 20 days paid Gender Affirmation Leave, should it be required for medical appointments, surgeries, counselling or other elements of the gender affirmation journey.

More About Partnerships

Our work takes place across the lands of Australia’s First People and Traditional Custodians. We acknowledge their continued connection and contribution to land, water and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded; this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
