THIS WEEK: LGBTQIA+ Education Workshops for Teachers! Last Minute Tickets

February 11, 2023

In 2022, IKEA once again celebrated International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), by calling on customers and co-workers to outwardly show their support to become stronger allies for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The well-known ‘Home Sweet Home’ sign was redesigned by IKEA and turned into ‘Home Pride Home’ using colours from the Progress Flag. ‘Home Pride Home’ was displayed in stores, shared on social media, could be printed or stitched at home and printed onto a range of textiles for customers visiting Sydney and Melbourne stores as a symbol of pride to take home.

Across the IDAHOBIT period, IKEA donated $25,000 to Minus18 during IDAHOBIT, to support Minus18's work improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth. The funds stemmed from the sales of rainbow STORSTOMMA bags and will be used to deliver more education and resources to support LGBTQIA+ communities and increase awareness around LGBTQIA+ issues.

IKEA’s commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion goes beyond the day, with other initiatives on a global and local level including;

  • Trans Inclusion Toolkit for managers that includes a global guideline for creating a trans-inclusive workplace and trans-inclusive teams.
  • Creating a global LGBTQIA+ inclusion plan, ensuring that their entire company creates a workplace and environment that welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
  • Undertake training for their co-workers about inclusion, unconscious bias and LGBTQIA+ issues to further support allyship.

Our work takes place across the lands of Australia’s First People and Traditional Custodians. We acknowledge their continued connection and contribution to land, water and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded; this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
